VIRGINIA HOTEL MANAGEMENT COMPANY ANNOUNCES NEW PROPERTIES
FOR GREATER BALTIMORE MARKET
CHESAPEAKE, VA –
Two new hotels will be built by Brentwood Hotels in
Anne Arundel County, Maryland near the Baltimore-Washington
International Airport to meet the needs of business
travelers in this growing market. The properties will
be managed by LTD Management Company, L.L.C.
A 203-room Sheraton hotel will be constructed at
1010 Old Elkridge Landing Road in Linthicum, Md. This
property is slated to open in the fall of 2006. Next
door, a 260-room Westin Hotel at 1012 Old Elkridge
Landing Road is scheduled for a spring 2007 opening.
Both hotels offer easy interstate access with visibility
from Interstates 295 and 195.
“Anne Arundel County has become a business
powerhouse as well as a magnet for vacationers,”
said Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens.
“Our hotel industry is growing to meet the demand
for more rooms and meeting space and I am pleased
to welcome these two wonderful hotels to Anne Arundel
County.”
“The BWI Business District is a major economic
driver for Anne Arundel County,” said Bill Badger,
president and CEO of the Anne Arundel Economic Development
Corporation. “The new Sheraton and Westin Hotels
are first class, full service hotels with the latest
amenities. They will be a good fit for this growing
area.”
These hotels are new prototypes from Starwood Hotels
and Resorts Worldwide, one of the world’s most
acclaimed and innovative hotel and leisure corporations.
The prototypes have been specifically designed for
more suburban markets.
“Starwood has revamped both the Sheraton and
Westin brands, catering to modern, younger business
people,” explained Neel Desai, LTD Management
Company vice president of operations. “LTD is
delighted to partner with Starwood to introduce this
exciting new lodging concept in the greater Baltimore-Washington
market.”
Brand enhancements for both properties will include
upscale amenities such as high-speed wireless Internet
access in all public areas, and flat-screen televisions
and high-speed Internet access in all guest rooms.
In addition, the Westin will include a full-service
restaurant with separate exterior entrance, catering
to both hotel guests and the public.
The availability of flexible meeting and banquet
areas in both the Sheraton and Westin will also create
additional growth opportunities. The Westin will have
nearly 7,300 square feet, and the Sheraton, more than
4,600 square feet. With these hotels’ strategic
location, less than three miles from the airport,
businesses can easily schedule day meetings.
“The Baltimore area is a perfect match for
these hotel brands, and we’re entering this
robust market at the right time,” said Malay
Thakkar, vice president of development for LTD Management
Company. “Given BWI airport’s $1.8 billion
expansion program, we believe that the market will
continue to grow, and travelers will demand high-quality
lodging and meeting venues. It has been a long time
since a new full-service hotel such as these has opened
in the area.”
